Empowering clients, families, and community members to save lives.

In partnership with the Lincoln, Logan, and Mingo County Health Departments

West Virginia continues to have the highest overdose rates in the nation, and we know every overdose victim is more than a statistic: they were a someone’s best friend, someone’s child, and our community member. We are committed to making a difference.

More than three out of every four fatal overdoses in West Virginia in 2019 involved on opioid, with reports of opioid overdoses substantially increasing in 2020. Naloxone, or brand name Narcan, is a powerful and proven antidote for reversing opioid overdoses.

Opioids slow down the activity of the central nervous system. One effect of this is slowed or stopped breathing, which could lead to death. Naloxone knocks the opioids out of the opioid receptors in the brain which allows the person who is experiencing an opioid overdose to begin breathing normally. In WV, anyone can legally carry naloxone and use it to save a life.
